She slowed down just enough to make a right turn at the next street, It wasn't enough, though, to keep the car from fishtailing, and causing me to bounce around in the front seat. Besides the speed and the fishtailing, mom had performed all this in sight of an unmarked cop car. That car was now behind us, lights and siren blaring from the grill.
All I know is that we had to get away from Dad. Bad thing would happen to both of us if he caught up to us. At the next intersection, mom took a left passing by yet another cop car. I almost rolled into mom as she was driving when she turned but I held on to the handle for the window for dear life. This time, the cop car was fully marked.
I saw mom look in the mirror, look at me, and started to slow down. She stopped about 2 mobile homes away from ours. She looked at me and I knew not to get out of the car - we've done this before.
Mom got out and walked to the front of the car and was immediately surrounded by cops. THEN DAD SHOWED UP. I could tell by his face, he was going to lie again about what was going on. This time, mom wasn't put up with it. The cops had her turn around for they were going to arrest her.
I jumped out of the car and ran towards them yelling, "Don't believe my dad! He lies! This isn't the first time this has happened! Mom was trying to get me away from the beatings from dad! She was trying to keep me safe! Look at her back if you don't believe me!"
Dad tried to act like I just had a vivid imagination and that I was upset over their argument earlier. The officer asked mom to lift her shirt part of the way and there on her stomach and lower back was fresh bruises and fresh abrasions from being hit.
The cops looked at my dad and told him to start walking to the house and get his things. He was no longer going to be with us ever again. I grabbed a hold of mom and together we walked with the cops and Dad to our trailer to watch him get his belongings. I held onto mom's hand tightly.
The last thing I saw before I woke up was Dad standing at the front entrance of the trailer with his clothes, front door wide open, cops waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs.
